Occupational Health & Safety Training

Under the Workers Compensation Act Part 3, Division 4 (135-1), each member of the Joint Occupational Health & Safety (JOHS) Committee are eligible for eight hours of paid leave for training each year.  After April 3, 2017, new JOHS members are legally required to have eight hours of training.

Training options include Joint Occupational Health & Safety (JOHS) Committee Training, Psychological Health & Safety in the Workplace for JOHS Committees (Respectful Workplaces), Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment, Inspections and Incident Investigations.

This course is designed to enhance committee members’ awareness of (1) mental health issues in the workplace, (2) changes in the legislation pertaining to it (including bullying and harassment), and (3) different proactive strategies to promote psychological health and safety in the workplace.

Leadership in Safety (Safety Management for Supervisors)  

Course length: 8 Hours

Under the  Workers Compensation Act Part 3, Division 4 (117), supervisors have the responsibility to ensure the health and safety of all workers under their supervision; and be knowledgeable about all regulations applicable to the work being supervised.

This course provides supervisors with the necessary knowledge and skills to fulfill these duties in accordance with G-D3-116 Orders to Workers, and the Criminal Code of Canada (217.1) wherein Due Diligence requires taking reasonable steps to prevent harm to workers.
