Delta company making 2 million disposable gowns for healthcare workers

DELTA (NEWS 1130) – A homegrown company is playing a big part in helping protect frontline healthcare workers during this pandemic.

F.A.S.T. Limited, which is based in Delta, has been tapped by the federal government to make two million gowns by this September.

“We are able to provide very valuable, much-needed isolation gowns to keep the frontline workers protected against COVID. We are able to manufacture these isolation gowns right here in the Lower Mainland,” said Carmen Ewels with the company.

According to the company’s website, the gowns are “made of clear, silver-tinted polypropylene material with open-back.” They go over the head and are single-use.

Ewels says they need to hire dozens of people to help make the gowns.

“We need about 100 people to work to manufacture level 3 disposable isolation gowns for the Public Health Agency of Canada,” she explained.

Once the gowns are made, they’ll be shipped to Calgary.

Ewels says F.A.S.T. Limited is one of two companies in B.C. and one of nine to get this deal. She says she can’t reveal how much the federal contract is worth.
